Hey! My name is Tate McCoy. I'm an aspiring software engineer and a Computer Science student at Brigham Young University, currently beginning my second year.
I grew up in Vanderhoof, British Columbia, before moving to Utah and later Northern Virginia. Shortly after moving, I discovered lacrosse and went on to play throughout high school at Herriman High, where I also took my first AP Computer Science class. With no prior experience, programming was challenging, but I loved the creativity and problem-solving it demanded.
At BYU, my interest deepened, especially as AI and large language models became mainstream. I'm excited about learning how to leverage these tools to write better, more efficient code.
From 2023-2025, I lived in the Philippines as a missionary. While I stepped away from programming, I gained invaluable skills in leadership, teamwork, and time management. Now back at BYU, I'm eager to catch up on new technologies and continue my journey toward becoming a skilled and impactful software engineer.
